Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

The Christmas Sermon:

The new tax reform bill has led to an intense debate over whether it would help or hurt the poor. Tax reform in general raises critical issues about whether the government should redistribute income and promote equality in the first place.

Jews and Christians look to the Bible for guidance about these questions. And while the Bible is clear about aiding the poor, it does not provide easy answers about taxing the rich. But even so, over the centuries biblical principles have provided an understanding on how to help the needy.

— Taxing the rich to help the poor? Here’s what the Bible says.

The Practice of People-Watching

people-watching

A little spiritual practice I recommend is to go to a public place where you can sit and watch human beings, perhaps at a café or in the park. I call it “people-watching.” The only difference between ordinary people-watching and this kind of people-watching is that your practice is not to attach any label or judgment on any human that you watch; you allow them to be as they are as they walk along or do whatever they do, and enjoy the incredible spectacle of the multiplicity of human forms.

There is no judging as good or bad; just allow them to be, so the mind does not call them anything. You’re there as an innocent observer. It’s a beautiful thing; it even does something to the energy field where you are, where you’re sitting. You bring in a different frequency, but that’s a secondary thing. Don’t start thinking, “I am here to bring in a different frequency…”; just be there an alert watcher…

—Eckhart Tolle

Greed and Selfishness

Who is Saint Gregory?

Saint Gregory

It is by no means enough not to steal the property of others; you are in error if you keep to yourself the wealth which God has created for all. He who does not give to others what he possesses is a murderer, a killer; when he keeps for his own use what would provide for the poor, one can say that he is slaying all those who could have lived from his plenty; when we share with those who are suffering, we do not give what belongs to us, but what belongs to them. This is not an act of pity, but the payment of a debt. — Pope Gregory the Great (6th Century)

You Be You

0023

“Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel.” — Jim Morrison

The First Peace

peace

“The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.” — Black Elk

Live in a Way That Honors Who You Are

0029

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~ e.e. cummings

Five Key Questions to Ask Yourself:

1. What or who would you be if you knew you couldn’t fail?
2. What is your ninety-second personal elevator speech?
3. What are your core personal values?
4. What makes you genuinely happy?
5. If money were no object, how would you live your life differently?

So, find a quiet place and allow yourself plenty of time to go through and really think about each question and then just go for it.

Go ahead. Begin your journey. Change direction. Create new dreams or rediscover dreams you left behind.

Everything You Ever Need is Already Inside You

0043

Who you really are is far beyond your comprehension. That’s why living squeezed into the human experience can be painful at times.

It is for me, too.

You can become as small as the smallest quantum particle, and as big as the multitude of galaxies that exist in space.

I was always like that, really. I just didn’t know it.

And so it is everyone else.

Even you.

And you have your own eternal music.

That’s cool! 🙂

A Most Astounding Scientific Fact

0044

“When I look up at the night sky, and I know that, yes, we are part of this Universe, we are in this Universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the Universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up — many people feel small, ’cause they’re small and the Universe is big, but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars.” — Neil deGrasse Tyson, American astrophysicist, director of the Hayden Planetarium, and popularizer of science.
